Who we are

Our website address is: https://ownenergy.org.

The website has been designed to minimize data collection as much as possible; only data that is strictly necessary for technical purposes is collected, and cookies are set only where absolutely necessary and are deleted as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, this does sometimes compromise the speed and convenience of the user experience.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

Visitor statistics with Statify

This website uses the WordPress plugin “Statify” to analyze page views. Statify does not use cookies and does not store any personal data such as IP addresses. Only aggregated and anonymized access data (e.g. visited pages and referrers) is collected. The data is not shared with third parties.
The processing is based on our legitimate interest in the anonymized analysis of user behavior pursuant to Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

Login Protection

To secure our login area, we use the WordPress security plugin Protect Login.

The plugin helps protect our website against unauthorized access attempts and brute-force attacks. For this purpose, the plugin processes the following data in particular:

  • IP address of the requesting device
  • Date and time of login attempts
  • Number of failed login attempts
  • Usernames entered during failed login attempts

In the event of repeated failed login attempts, the corresponding IP address may be temporarily blocked.

The processing is carried out on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in ensuring the security of our website and protecting it against abusive access attempts.

The collected data is processed exclusively for security purposes and is deleted regularly unless statutory retention obligations apply.

Forum (bbPress)

We operate a forum on our website using the bbPress software.

Content of posts and topics
Voluntary profile information

Purpose of processing
The processing is carried out for the purpose of providing and operating the forum and enabling communication between users.

Legal basis
The processing is carried out in accordance with Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract, provision of the user account) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in operating a communication platform).

Public visibility of contributions
Content you publish in the forum is generally publicly visible. Please ensure that you do not share sensitive personal data in your posts.

Storage of IP addresses and cookies
According to our configuration, no IP addresses of users are stored in connection with the use of the forum.
Likewise, no additional cookies are set by the forum for analysis, tracking, or login purposes.

Your rights
Within the framework of applicable law, you have the right at any time to access, rectify, erase, or restrict the processing of your personal data, as well as the right to data portability.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
